Terms of Service

The service

RewindChess fetches public games from chess.com and analyses them with the Stockfish chess engine, on your device or on our servers. It also offers tools such as Review All, Scout, Studio and Twin Bot. The core features are free. Server reviews have a daily limit, and some features are part of Pro, a paid plan (see "Pro and payments" below).

Not affiliated with chess.com or Lichess

RewindChess is independent. It isn't endorsed by, sponsored by or affiliated with chess.com or Lichess, and their names belong to their owners. When you use features that rely on their data, you also need to follow their terms.

Your account

An account is optional. If you create one, give a real email address you control, keep access to it secure, and tell us at support@rewindchess.com if you think someone else used it. You are responsible for what happens under your account. You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your country, to create an account.

Pro and payments

Pro is a monthly subscription. On the website you pay with PayPal; in the Android app you pay through Google Play, which handles payment and taxes there under its own terms. It renews automatically every month until you cancel. If you already have Pro from the website, the Android app won't sell you a second subscription.

Pro includes 3,000 server reviews for each monthly billing period, on top of the free daily reviews, which are used first. Unused Pro reviews don't carry over: they end on your next billing date, and the next period's reviews are added once its payment goes through.

You can cancel any time: on the website from your account page, and in the Android app in Google Play (Play Store, then Payments & subscriptions). After you cancel, Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for, and nothing more is charged.

Pro costs the same in every country. On the website the price is shown in US dollars before you pay, and PayPal may convert it to your currency; Google Play shows its own local price, converted from the same US dollar price. A price change never affects a subscription you already have, though Google Play may tell you about its own price changes before they apply.

Refunds. You can get a full refund within 14 days of any payment, for any reason: email support@rewindchess.com from the address on your account. Google Play purchases can also be refunded through Google Play. A refunded or charged-back payment ends Pro. After 14 days, payments aren't refundable unless the law where you live says otherwise. Nothing here limits your legal rights.

Acceptable use

Please don't:

• get around the daily limits, rate limits or plan restrictions, for example with many fake devices;
• scrape, overload, attack or disrupt the service, or try to reach data that isn't yours;
• use automated tools to call our servers, except the official apps;
• upload or share anything illegal, hateful, harassing, or that infringes others' rights;
• use RewindChess to break the rules of chess.com, any other chess site or any tournament, including getting engine help during a game.

Engine analysis is not a verdict

Reviews, accuracy scores, move labels, ratings estimates and Scout reports are produced automatically and can be wrong. They are for learning and preparation. They are not evidence of cheating or of anyone's skill, and must not be used to accuse or harass other players.

Your content

You keep the rights to studies, notes and games you upload. You allow us to store, process and display them to provide RewindChess to you, and to show them publicly when you choose to share them. Analyses of public games may be cached and reused for other users, without any information about who requested them.

Our software and Stockfish

RewindChess, its design and its code belong to us, apart from third-party parts. Stockfish is free software under the GNU General Public License v3 and runs as a separate, unmodified program; see About & credits for its licence and source.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how we use it.

Availability and changes

We work to keep RewindChess running, but it may be unavailable at times, and we may change, limit or stop features. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms. You can stop using RewindChess at any time and ask us to delete your account.

No warranty

RewindChess is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We don't promise that it will be error-free, that analyses will be accurate, or that data will never be lost.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data, rating points, games or profits, arising from your use of RewindChess. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before it, or USD 50 if you paid nothing. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll give notice in the apps. If you keep using RewindChess after a change, the new terms apply.
