The desktop app runs Stockfish at full strength on every core of your computer, in the background, and tells you when a report is ready. It is free. Version 0.1.0, for macOS and Windows.

Linux builds are not offered yet.

Before you open it

The app is not code-signed yet, so your computer warns you the first time you open it. The warning comes from the missing signature, not from the file itself. Signed builds are planned.

On a Mac

  1. Open the .dmg and drag RewindChess into Applications.
  2. Open RewindChess. When macOS says it can’t be opened, dismiss the message.
  3. Open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway next to RewindChess. Confirm with your password. On older macOS, right-click the app and choose Open instead.
  4. Not sure which chip you have? Apple menu, About This Mac. “Chip Apple M…” means Apple silicon. “Processor Intel” means Intel.

On Windows

  1. Run the setup file you downloaded.
  2. Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”. Click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Follow the installer. It installs for your user account only.
